In early November, I was thrilled to learn that my artwork, "I Choose Love," would be featured in the FusionFest gallery exhibition at Orlando International Airport (MCO). This year's FusionFest "Freedom" gallery also showcased two of my portraits, "Beauty of Trans Rights" and "Live Out Loud," as part of the visual arts exhibit Nov 30 & Dec 1, 2024.
Participating in FusionFest was an absolute honor, not only for me as an artist but also for the powerful message these artworks convey. To best present these pieces, they were meticulously crafted on 24" x 36" metal, resulting in a striking vibrancy that surpasses traditional canvas prints.
I initiated the Inclusive Art Project in 2023 as a response to the politically challenging climate in Florida. The project aimed to demonstrate love, support, and resilience within the LGBTQ+ community by inviting individuals to contribute their own unique messages. The resulting artwork is deeply cherished and impactful, not only for the participants but also for their families, friends, and the broader LGBTQ+ community.
Initially, I shared these portraits, which were also mentioned in the French article "Dans la Floride de Ron DeSantis, un Mois des fiertés sous haute tension," published amidst the wave of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation that garnered national and international attention. Unfortunately, the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community persist, making this artwork even more relevant today.
Below are images of the art during the gallery exhibition to which I had visitation from one of the portrait models, Tina Renee, and friend, J. Vladimir, who is also a photographer and artist. I am pictured with my youngest son who fell asleep during the full process.
