Instagram just changed its mind about long videos. The platform recently announced a new format called Features, which allows up to 90 minute horizontal videos. Creators will be able to link up to eight short Reels to one full Feature, turning quick clips into a trailer for a longer episode right inside the app. This is a huge shift in strategy for the platform, and it means your short clips can now sell a bigger idea without sending your audience elsewhere.

As Instagram chases the long video market, YouTube is firing back with new tools to improve how your content actually performs. Announced at their recent Made On event, YouTube is bringing a Gemini powered conversational editor to Shorts and the YouTube Create app. This allows creators to easily trim dialogue, sync clips to music, and insert text hooks with simple prompts. They are also testing new optimization tools, offering split testing for different cuts and dynamic thumbnails to catch the eye of different viewers.

While these platforms battle for format dominance, Meta is rolling out tools to keep creators completely locked into its own ecosystem. In late September, they introduced an AI assistant for Edits, Meta's video app for Instagram, which acts as a personalized AI coach that actually reads your specific account numbers. It knows your metrics, views, retention, and audience comments, using that data to suggest hooks and scripts tailored precisely to your style. As Meta emphasizes, the assistant does the heavy lifting of data analysis, but the creative calls are still entirely yours to make.

The overarching theme for these updates is incredibly clear; platforms want you to stay within their walls for both creation and consumption. Instagram wants your long videos, YouTube wants to give you the editing tools to succeed, and Meta wants to be your personalized analytics team. Now is the perfect time to evaluate how these tools can streamline your workflow without losing your authentic voice. Drop a comment below and let me know which of these upcoming features you are most excited to try out for your brand.
