MRes Disseration: “Improving Methods to Quantify Grooming and What This May Tell Us about Grooming Partners: A Case Study with Japanese Macaques (Macaca fuscata)” Summary: Grooming is most commonly quantified by measuring the duration and frequency of grooming bouts (e.g. Carne et al., 2011; McFarland & Majolo, 2011). Current methods to quantify grooming do not incorporate information about the quality of the grooming – this may be an absolutely fundamental parameter to measure.
